Good morning!
I am very happy to have created this artwork for Star of the Day Event Productions. Big Fish is such a great story of love, self exploration and perspective that we all can relate to. Those of you that have or had a family member in the service have heard many tales of their adventures overseas-and more than once.
I started out sketching with pencil and paper working in some art nouveau elements. I knew right away I would include a swamp cedar tree-a fixture of the southern landscape and a tree that I've always admired because of the dreamy draping moss. Drawing a mythical catfish was dream come true for a fisher-woman like myself! As you can see, I have been on a Japanese art kick. In fact, my first draft was over the top in Japanese inspired pastels. After my inevitable feedback (like she wouldn't notice), I American'd it up with a moodier palette, Ferris wheel, string lights and circus tents.
